About Rhoya
I am an American who trained to teach secondary school at Durham University, where I graduated with a PGCE with distinction. I taught in secondary schools across the North of England for a few years. What I enjoy most about teaching, is helping individuals reach their potential and build their confidence. In History, I am most passionate about looking at and analysing historical sources and discussing their different possible interpretations.

What makes History interesting to me, are the personal stories of people in the past and the attempt to uncover their mysteries. With a Honours BA degree in both Drama and History, I like to engage my students by showing them that history is a form of storytelling.
History is NOT just about memorising facts about dead people. At its core, it is about understanding human nature and the motivations of people. It is about thinking critically and not accepting things at face value. It is about trying to understand the different worlds of the past so we can better understand our own current environment. Keeping this at the heart of my teaching, makes the technique side of History as a school subject easier.
I find that key skills needed in History (e.g. source analysis and interpretations) become much easier once students begin to see the human side of the subject.
As a former secondary school teacher who taught from Year 7-A Level, I know exactly how to teach not only the content, but the key skills needed and exam technique. I can teach you how to write your exam responses so you can jump through the hoops to achieve the highest grade boundaries. I have marked thousands of exam responses, and can give back detailed feedback on how to improve. I also specialise in teaching source analysis, and will help you practise analysing the content and provenance and how to select relevant knowledge. I also have a lot of experience teaching SEN pupils, and can tailor my teaching to meet your individual needs.
I can help you with: AQA GCSE (Germany, America, Conflict and Tension in Asia, Norman England, Elizabethan England, & Health and the People. OCR A-Level Germany. I was raised in the USA, and can offer special insight to American history topics. If you are looking for help with other topics, still reach out and we can discuss.
Additionally, I offer help writing essays, whether personal statements, or history essays. I can help you structure, edit, and proofread your work.
I am also willing to teach small groups, so you can save money.
