About Sophie
I have experience of working as a Teaching Assistant. While working as a Teaching Assistant, I have experienced a wide range of rewards, such as seeing young people grow to be confident members of the community.
I have worked with a range of year groups and I have studied many texts such as ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and I have helped the pupils with context and how to write paragraphs in essays. I have also studied Power and Conflict poetry and helped the students to pick out poetic devices. With Year 10’s, we are covering the new English syllabus and studying Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. I have also learnt about Raising Attainment Through Literacy and try to implement this wherever I can. I have helped students to use a range of sentence structures in their writing. As a teaching assistant, I have been given the opportunity to have mentees who have many complex needs such as dyslexia, autism and anxiety who I have supported with all aspects of school life. This has involved me talking with teachers and giving them strategies to help the students. Through working at a school, I have come to understand school policies and how schools work.

My teaching methods include creativity and being able to approach texts with a critical eye. I am very encouraging and will allow you to work at your own pace and guide if necessary. I currently teach 11-16 year olds but would be able to tutor younger and older pupils as well. I love teaching Poetry and I have experience with the AQA specification.
