About James
I approach the subject of Art and Photography with a creativity first mentality, promoting a naturally inquisitive response in my students. I use my knowledge of Art History to promote contextual awareness and my experience with a full range of materials and techniques as a practicing artist to promote individual responses from students.
Art as a broad subject with endless possibilities. I would always encourage a basis in the traditional techniques of drawing and recording from observation, and hold a so far unchallenged belief that everybody can draw. Beyond this Art becomes incredibly exciting. Whether you want to work from or into your drawings, maintain an accurate representation or an abstraction, or use 1 material or 4, it is completely up to you. It is your personal response. My job is to open up the options, broaden your knowledge of processes and relevant artists and most importantly develop you as an artist.
As a qualified and practicing Art and Photography teacher with a very successful track record in a reputable school in Bath, I ensure that my knowledge of current requirements and assessment criteria across GCSE and A-level Art and Photography is fully up to date.
