About Nlota
I am passionate about helping students succeed and grow confident in their abilities. With experience tutoring peers at my university’s Academic Success Center, I’ve supported students across Biology and English Composition. I employ evidence-based strategies rooted in the psychology of learning. My goal is to meet each student where they are, guide them through challenges with patience, and empower them to master concepts independently. I am committed to creating a supportive, structured environment that fosters real understanding and long-term success.

I specialize in tutoring Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology for high school students and 100-level college undergraduates. My approach is centered on helping students truly understand the material rather than memorize it. I guide students through structured questioning and build each lesson around what they already know. This allows us to fill knowledge gaps naturally and helps students gain confidence as they learn to work through problems independently.
My Method
I rely on a method of guided progress through questioning. Instead of giving answers outright, I help students arrive at the solution themselves using:
Scaffolded questions that connect new concepts to prior knowledge
Clear, step-by-step breakdowns of difficult topics
Reinforcement through real-world examples and visuals
Independent practice where students apply what they’ve learned
Judgement-free clarification to make sure they feel comfortable asking questions anytime
This approach helps students develop critical thinking skills and become active learners who retain information more effectively.
A Typical Tutoring Session with Me:
1. Quick Check-In (3–5 minutes)
We review the last lesson or assess what the student already knows about the day’s topic.
2. Concept Breakdown (10–15 minutes)
I introduce or clarify key concepts using diagrams, examples, or analogies tailored to the student’s level.
3. Guided Questioning (10–15 minutes)
The student answers progressively more complex questions that deepen their understanding. Here, I focus on revealing misconceptions and strengthening reasoning.
4. Independent Practice (10–15 minutes)
The student works through a problem set, labeling exercise, scenario-based question, or short assessment while I remain available for hints or clarification.
5. Review and Next Steps (5 minutes)
We reinforce what was learned and I outline what to practice before our next session.
My tutoring is ideal for:
High school students taking general Biology, Anatomy, or Microbiology
College freshmen in 100-level introductory science courses
Students preparing for exams, building foundational science skills, or seeking clearer explanations than they may receive in class
