About Hannah

I have been consistently teaching private lessons since receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the Greatbatch School of Music in 2017. I spent the majority of that time in the San Francisco Bay Area primarily working at three different reputable music studios (Scherzo Music School, Music Art Studio, & Music Land School of Music), while maintaining my freelance performing career. I had nothing but positive feedback from my employers and students alike, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with the range of my student's personalities and skill-sets.
I have worked with a number of reputable teachers and performers including Martha Thomas, Charlie Castleman of Eastman and Frost School of Music, Laura Bossert of Syracuse University, Sally Thomas of the Juilliard School, Ann Setzer of Mannes at the New School, and Stephanie Chase of NYU. I have also attended Summer Strings at NYU, Meadowmount School of Music, and the Castleman Quartet Program, during the summers, where I was coached by notable individuals such as Kikuei Ikeda from the Tokyo String Quartet and John Kochanowski (a protegé of Robert Mann, a member of the Juilliard String Quartet). Aside from my classical background, I also have experience in jazz, pop, and contemporary music, and have also performed vocal music and has played electric bass, French horn, and guitar.

I typically use the Suzuki method violin books, but I can also work with Strictly Strings and Essential Elements. Depending on the natural strengths of the student, we may start with music fundamentals or jump right into violin setup and technique. I typically pair the books with exercises of my own invention meant to isolate the technique at hand for that lesson. We will integrate reading the music with the physical connection on the instrument. I focus on the sound production as he primary focus and then move onto left hand technique. Slowly, we will work on training the ear to recognize subtle changes in intonation.
I believe in 5 core philosophies in teaching: 1. Comfort is key. Yes, there will be things about playing that are physically challenging at first, but together we will be very sensitive towards avoiding any unecessary tension. Never practice to the point of pain. 2. Each student responds and learns through MANY different methods. Flexibility is my business. 3. Lessons should be filled with tactful instruction paired with kindness and patience. 4. I care about your success and finding what inspires you. 5. I will push you to excellence, but my way is not the only way - your input matters to me.
