About Thomas
Hi, my name is Tommy. I have experience supporting and working with children through primary school work experience, helping develop a patient, supportive and structured teaching approach. I have also tutored secondary school students, in aid of their KS3 and GCSE exams. I aim to tailor my lessons for the students' needs and learning styles, whilst ensuring my lessons are engaging and memorable.

My approach to tutoring and teaching style
I take a patient, structured, and personalised approach to tutoring, adapting lessons to each student’s current level, confidence, and learning style. My goal is not only to improve academic performance, but also to help students develop genuine confidence and understanding in maths.
I focus on building strong foundations and helping students understand the reasoning behind mathematical concepts rather than simply memorising methods. Lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and paced appropriately for the student, with clear explanations, guided practice, and opportunities to ask questions in a comfortable environment.
For students preparing for exams, I place additional emphasis on problem-solving techniques, exam strategy, and identifying weaker areas to improve performance efficiently.
Typical lesson structure and length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs and exam goals.
A typical lesson may include:
- Reviewing previous topics or homework
- Learning and practising a new concept
- Working through exam-style or targeted questions
- Identifying areas for improvement and setting goals for the next session
