About Douglas
I am a Wesleyan University graduate and private online tutor since 1998, specializing in College Essay Coaching, Essay Writing (reference below), Editing, and Proofreading (all levels, no citations). For six years, I taught writing at an afterschool tutoring center, helping students build confidence and foundational skills. In my English tutoring, I draw on extensive editorial experience — from novels and graduate-level research papers to news stories broadcast on commercial radio and television.
"Doug is a great tutor. He has been coaching my 4th grader son for the last couple of months. He always maintains a friendly and interactive environment during the session. He provides constructive feedback and encourages my son to perform better -- in a fun way! My son really enjoys the class and looks forward to it each week. I highly recommend him!"

"Douglas has been providing excellent help to my high schooler on his writing assignments. Douglas is a very engaging, patient, and knowledgeable tutor. He has been supportive of my son's efforts to develop his own style and expand his ability to think about the subject matter he is writing about. Douglas has been very responsive and communicative when we have questions, and he is flexible in adapting to my son's learning style. I recommend Douglas to anyone who wants to improve their writing."

Douglas is a very thorough, patient, engaging, and kind tutor who takes the time to prepare in advance for lessons, especially when given information in advance about assignments or test topics. He is also reliable, punctual, and truly cares about the success of his students--and, he is very encouraging! If a student says "I can't", he will tell that student why s/he CAN do it.
