About Josh

As a professional musician and educator with 20 years of experience, I bring both high-level musical experience and a thoughtful, reliable teaching approach to every lesson. I understand that students are looking for more than someone who can play well. They want a teacher who can communicate clearly, adapt to their needs, and help them make steady, meaningful progress. That is exactly what I strive to provide.

My lessons are professional, encouraging, and tailored to the individual student. I take the time to understand each student’s goals, strengths, and challenges so I can create a learning experience that is both effective and enjoyable. Whether a student is picking up an instrument for the first time or trying to break through a plateau, I focus on building skill, confidence, and real musical ability.

What makes my teaching stand out is the combination of experience, clarity, and personal investment I bring to the process. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all lessons or teaching disconnected material just to fill time. I want students to understand what they are playing, why it works, and how to use it in real musical situations. My goal is to help students become stronger, more capable musicians while enjoying the process along the way.

Students and families can expect clear communication, a supportive atmosphere, and lessons that are grounded in both professionalism and genuine care. I take teaching seriously, and I am committed to helping each student grow with confidence.

I teach with the goal of helping students become confident, expressive, and well-rounded musicians. My lessons are built around more than just learning songs or memorizing shapes. I want students to understand how music works, how their instrument works, and how to keep growing long after the lesson ends. Whether a student wants to strum confidently, play lead guitar, understand chords and scales, or build strong bass fundamentals, I tailor the lesson to help them make real progress in a way that feels motivating and clear.

My teaching method combines strong fundamentals with practical, hands-on learning. I focus on technique, timing, tone, fretboard knowledge, ear training, and musical understanding, while also making lessons enjoyable and connected to the styles the student loves. I break concepts down into simple, manageable steps and help students connect exercises to real music, so practice feels purposeful rather than random. I also adjust my approach to each student’s age, experience level, and goals.

A typical lesson might include a warm-up, technique work, rhythm or picking exercises, chord or scale study, work on a song or musical style, and guided application through playing, improvisation, or musical problem-solving. For guitar students, this may include strumming, lead playing, chord vocabulary, riffs, rhythm guitar, soloing, and fretboard fluency. For double bass students, lessons may focus on sound production, time feel, foundational technique, note reading, groove, and musical awareness. I aim to balance structure with creativity so students are always building useful skills while staying inspired.

What sets me apart is that I teach from both real-world performance experience and a deep commitment to education. I help students not only play music, but understand it. That means students often develop more quickly, retain more of what they learn, and become more independent musicians over time. I want students to feel supported, challenged, and excited to keep improving.

These lessons are ideal for beginners through intermediate students, as well as more serious players who want to strengthen their foundation, technique, style, and musical understanding. I teach acoustic guitar, country guitar, electric guitar, rock guitar, and double bass, and I work with students who want anything from a strong beginner introduction to more stylistically focused growth.
