About Melanie
My name is Melanie Giselle- I'm an Uruguayan-American vocalist and musician based in Manhattan, NYC since 2015. I graduated from The City College of New York in 2022 and have a B. Mus. in Jazz Vocal Performance, and I've been performing professionally ever since!
Venues I've performed at as a vocalist and band leader in NYC include Ornithology Jazz Club, Cafe Ornithology, Drais Supper Club, Rosevale Cocktail Lounge, Only Love Strangers, The Ivy Room, Melody's Piano Bar, the Ned Nomad, Vue 180, Canary Club, as well as the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
Besides singing jazz standards, bossa nova, and Latin American music in a band format, I am a Sofar Sounds Artist and perform my original music at their pop-up shows regularly.
I have weekly residencies in NYC that keep me performing on a consistent basis and also travel to perform regularly.

As a professional jazz vocalist based in New York City with roots in both Uruguay and Argentina, I bring a multicultural perspective to every lesson. My teaching blends the rich traditions of jazz, Latin American music, and contemporary vocal technique, creating a personalized learning experience for each student.
I believe that every singer has a unique voice. My role is to help you develop healthy vocal technique while building confidence, artistry, and your own musical identity. Rather than focusing only on singing the "right notes," I teach you how to communicate emotion, tell a story, and connect authentically with your audience.
My lessons combine technical training with practical performance skills, ensuring that students grow not only as vocalists but also as complete artists.
Every lesson is tailored to your goals, experience, and musical interests. Together, we work on:
- Healthy vocal technique, breath support, resonance, and vocal flexibility
-Jazz phrasing, improvisation, rhythm, and interpretation
-Spanish-language repertoire, including music from Latin America and Spain
-English-language jazz standards and contemporary repertoire
-Stage presence, confidence, microphone technique, and audience connection
-Ear training and musicianship
-Repertoire selection for auditions, performances, recordings, or personal enjoyment
-Building artistic expression and finding your authentic voice
I create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable experimenting, asking questions, and developing confidence as performers.
Each lesson is structured to provide both technical development and artistic growth:
-Vocal warm-ups and breathing exercises
-Technique exercises tailored to your voice
-Repertoire study and interpretation
-Jazz phrasing and stylistic coaching
-Performance practice, including stage presence and storytelling
-Feedback, goal setting, and practice strategies for the week
Lessons are interactive, practical, and designed to help you make noticeable progress from one session to the next.
What makes my teaching unique is the combination of my professional performance experience in New York City's vibrant scene and my South American heritage. I help students explore both the American jazz tradition and the beauty of Spanish-language repertoire, offering a broader musical perspective.
My students learn not only how to sing but also how to perform with confidence, communicate through music, and develop their own artistic voice. Whether you're preparing for auditions, live performances, recording sessions, or simply singing for personal fulfillment, I provide practical tools you can immediately apply.
