About Tom
My name is Tom Barnes and I have fortunately been involved within the music industry for 20 years. For an extensive period as a solo artist then moving forward to launching and running my own independent record label. I remember as a 14 year old guitar student in school, my tutor taught me a Turin Brakes record called Underdog. Fast forward 10 years and I was sharing a stage with them.

My approach to teaching is similar to growing a plant. Although it begins as a seed, with the correct nurturing it can bloom into something amazing. So by understanding each student's initial ability, that offers the foundation as to the pace and what fundamentals are best suited. Rome wasn't built in a day, so it's a case of removing all pressure to begin with and not running before you can walk. I think it's also taken for granted, our own personal input to learning. A teacher is a guide, and can offer up a map, but the student needs to use that map and navigate the journey to arrive at the destination. We have to work together.
