About Laura
I'm a 28-year-old pianist, vocalist, professional performer, and songwriter with a Bachelor's Degree in Music (Contemporary Performance) from The Australian Institute of Music and 9 years of teaching experience. I have been classically trained in piano since I was 5 years old, and at the age of 12 also began to incorporate a more contemporary approach to my playing, focusing around accompaniment, chord progressions and structure, jazz theory, and aural skills. At the age of 15, I began my vocal training, and then went on to major in contemporary singing at University. Currently, outside of teaching, I spend my time honing my craft in songwriting and performing as well as mentoring in business and leadership development.

Having experience with both classical and contemporary teaching styles has led me to understand the importance of students learning music from a variety of angles, and has also led me to understand that some approaches will work for some students whereas they may not work for others. I pride myself on being adaptable to my students' needs; whether it is exams you are wanting to prepare for, you want to learn a new hobby, you're a singer wanting to accompany yourself, you need mentorship on your career, you want to learn by ear or you want to read music, whatever it may be, I have no doubt that I can help you accomplish what you set out to do. I am genuinely passionate about nurturing the growth of budding musicians, I want to see you realize your full potential and have fun at the same time. Music is a part of all of us, and I believe the teacher needs to have a genuine interest in the students to build a friendship & trust which is vital to their progression.
