About Jessica
I am a credentialed (California) educator with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biology. For the last 12 years, I have worked at an academically rigorous private high school in Orange County, California. During this time, I taught a wide variety of courses, including: Biology, AP Biology, Marine Biology, AP Environmental Science, Honors Anatomy & Physiology, and Chemistry. AP exam pass rates for my students consistently exceeds the national average year after year. This year (2020) was no exception, pandemic or not, all of my students did very well on their AP Biology exams.
In addition to teaching high school science, I have also taught General Biology and Human Health and Disease (A&P/pathophysiology) at the college level. I love teaching, and enjoy empowering students with the knowledge and confidence they need to excel in the classroom, and achieve their full potential.
This Fall I returned to school full-time as a student, hence the move from California to Nashville. I am currently working towards completing an MSN program at Vanderbilt University.

As an educator, I believe that it is important to build an individual's confidence in their ability. Once a student knows they are capable of learning and understanding material that is new to them, they start to enjoy the learning process. Topics that they once considered impossible, become comprehensible, and they start to take ownership of their academic journey. As such, my approach to teaching involves building confidence in one's ability to acquire knowledge, by setting clear expectations for both the student and myself as their teacher.
