About Dov
I'm a professional drummer with 42 years behind the kit, 20 of them spent gigging and recording at a professional level. My playing has taken me across the UK and abroad, touring and recording with a wide mix of artists including Dave Gilmour, Martha Reeves, Edwin Starr, Mary Wilson, Freda Payne, The Pretty Things, Arthur Brown, alongside long stretches on the UK theatre circuit with tribute productions.
Teaching is something I've come to value as much as playing. I genuinely enjoy watching a student have a breakthrough moment - the first time a groove locks in, the first time a tricky coordination problem clicks, the first time they play along confidently to a song they thought was out of reach.
Drumming is one of the most rewarding instruments to learn, and one of the most physical: how you sit at the kit, how you hold the sticks, how you breathe, all matter as much as the notes themselves.
I bring patience, a methodical approach, and a genuine belief that anyone can learn to play well if they're taught properly. After decades around all kinds of musicians - total beginners through to international touring acts, I know how to meet a player where they are and help them find their next step.

Lessons are tailored to each individual and built around your goals - whether you're a complete beginner picking up sticks for the first time, an improver wanting to break through a plateau, or a more experienced player working on specific styles and techniques. We'll cover the core fundamentals - timekeeping, stick control including finger, wrist and Moeller technique, foot technique, dynamics, reading - alongside the music you actually want to play. Nothing accelerates progress like working on songs you love.
Lessons take place in my dedicated drum studio on the Surrey/Kent borders, close to Junction 6 of the M25. The room is set up with two professional acoustic kits side-by-side for teacher and student, plus teaching aids on a large monitor and a PA system, so you hear the music in proper context as you play.
One-hour and two-hour slots are available. One hour suits most weekly students; two-hour sessions work well for adults or for tackling a bigger technique like Moeller in one sitting. Suitable for ages 10 and up, complete beginners through to gigging drummers wanting to sharpen specific areas. Styles covered include rock, pop, blues, funk, soul, Latin, plus African rhythms - your call.
First lesson is free and a chance to have a play, talk through what you want to get out of drumming, and see whether we're a good fit.
