About Kate
I began playing violin at age three and bring over 20 years of playing and performing experience to my teaching. I received a music degree from the Jacobs School of Music and was classically trained using the Suzuki method. Growing up, I spent eight years in youth orchestras and had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. I’ve also played in pit orchestras for productions including Les Misérables and Newsies, and most recently performed with Lord Huron for the first three shows of their Cosmic Selector Tour in July 2025. Today, I work as a professional violinist for weddings and private events, and I bring that real-world performance experience into my lessons, helping students build strong technique, musicality, and confidence.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals while helping students develop confidence, discipline, and musical expression. With over 20 years of violin experience and formal training from the Jacobs School of Music, I combine classical technique with a supportive, personalized style. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s goals and level, emphasizing posture, tone production, intonation, and bow control, alongside musicality and mindset. A typical lesson includes warm-ups and technique work, repertoire review, targeted exercises, and clear practice strategies for the week ahead.
I help students understand how to practice, not just what to practice, so they grow into confident, independent musicians. I teach beginners through advanced players, children, teens, and adults, including students preparing for school orchestra, auditions, or performances, as well as adult beginners and returning players. Lessons are available online with 30, 45, and 60-minute options.
