About Skyler
I have 7 years of experience tutoring Chess to high school and college students, having successfully taught around 150 learners. My teaching philosophy is centered on patience, understanding, and encouragement, helping students develop not only their chess skills but also critical thinking, concentration, and strategic problem-solving. I focus on building strong foundations in openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, and positional play, while also guiding students through practical game analysis and puzzles. I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, whether it’s improving tournament performance, enhancing rating, or learning for fun. Many of my students have achieved personal milestones, including winning school or college tournaments and improving their competitive confidence. I aim to create a supportive and positive learning environment where students feel motivated to practice and grow. With a structured yet flexible approach, I help students enjoy chess while reaching their full potential, fostering skills that go beyond the game.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students of all levels develop strong chess skills while enjoying the game. I combine flexibility, understanding, positivity, and integrity to create a supportive learning environment. Lessons cover openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, positional play, and calculation techniques. I also include practical exercises, game analysis, and puzzle-solving to strengthen critical thinking and decision-making.
Each session is tailored to the student’s goals, whether preparing for tournaments, improving rating, or learning for fun. I emphasize patience, practice, and self-reflection, helping learners recognize patterns and improve consistently. I also integrate mindset coaching, time management, and competitive strategies to build confidence over the board.
My aim is not only to teach moves and strategies but also to develop problem-solving, concentration, and sportsmanship. With guidance and structured practice, students gain skills that extend beyond chess, fostering analytical thinking and resilience.
