About Kia

I am a multidisciplinary artist with a first-class degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths University of London. I also run the outreach program at a London Art gallery. Through this role, I provide a platform for young artists to show their work in a professional setting. I have had exhibitions in both the Uk and abroad, including shows in Istanbul and London. I have also completed public sculptural commissions for venues such as Luton Airport.
I have skills in sculpture, Performance art, painting, digital media and poetry. I have extensive knowledge of contemporary art practice and various art historical reference points. I can confidently support students with any written work they need to produce as part of their portfolios including essays and artist statements.
To date, I have worked with five students to help them prepare for art school and different creative university courses. Every student I have worked with received an offer from their top choice of university. I have worked with GCSE students, A-Level students and also those on Art and Design Foundation courses.

Through my degree, I learnt that one of the most vital skills an artist can process is, the ability to communicate their ideas and intentions. As a teacher, I encourage my students to interrogate how they think and speak about their work. All of my lessons are unique and tailored to the individual interests of my students. My first lesson with a student involves me encouraging them to speak about what and who inspires them. I then use my extensive knowledge of contemporary art to provide them with examples of artworks that may interest them. Over the next sessions, we go through the process of creation and development of an artistic style. Our next step is to work together to explore different ways to express this style coherently in a digital and physical portfolio.

An important part of the journey into art school is the interview. My students develop vital interview skills and increase their confidence in verbal communication. During my time at university, I worked with tutors to interview potential students, so I know what art courses are looking for and as part of my tutoring service, I provide my students with mock interview questions.
I also assist with the writing of personal statements and essays. I can provide helpful templates for written work to act as a starting point for my students to work from.

I encourage creative development in my students and suggest ways in which they can push their work further. Art is all about developing your style and point of view, and that's what I aim to get out of my students through fun and thought-provoking sessions.
My work in a gallery means I am well equipped to advise to my students on how to operate as a professional artist outside of an educational environment.
Overall I want my sessions to be a fun and inspiring experience for my students. I aim to encourage a love and appreciation for art that will last a lifetime.
