About Ira
Hi! I’m a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and currently a medical student at USC Keck School of Medicine. I’ve spent years helping students succeed not only in science, math, and standardized test prep — but also in navigating the complex college and medical school admissions process with confidence and strategy. Having gone through highly competitive application cycles myself, I bring firsthand insight into what top-tier schools are really looking for — from essay development and school selection to interview prep and crafting a compelling personal narrative. I’ve worked with students from all backgrounds to identify their unique strengths and communicate them powerfully. As a tutor, I combine subject knowledge (especially STEM + pre-med coursework), test-taking expertise (SAT/ACT/MCAT), and real-world admissions experience to give students a major edge. Whether you’re building your college list, revising your personal statement, or trying to figure out how to explain a C+ in chemistry — I’ve been there, and I know how to help you stand out. I aim to be more than a tutor — I’m a mentor and coach who will help you study smarter, write better, and apply with purpose. Let’s turn your goals into results — step by step.

My approach focuses on clarity, confidence, and strategy. Whether it's test prep or class content, I break down complex topics into digestible pieces, then build them back up through guided practice and real-time feedback. I prioritize: 1. Active recall & spaced repetition (for long-term retention) 2. MCAT/SAT/ACT-specific strategies (timing, elimination, prioritization) 3. Real-world examples & visuals to make abstract concepts click 4. Personalized support based on your goals, pace, and background 5. Lessons are collaborative — I don’t lecture; I coach, quiz, and challenge. A Typical Lesson Plan for each 1-hour session is tailored to the student but follows this general format: 1. Check-in & Goal Setting (5 min) 2. Review progress, identify focus areas 3. Concept Deep Dive or Passage Walkthrough (30 min) 4. Hands-on review using active questioning, diagrams, or examples 5. Targeted Practice (20 min) through timed questions, test simulations, real-world application 6. Wrap-Up & Study Strategy (5 min) with summary, key takeaways, and homework plan and follow-up resources or optional practice sets are provided after each session.

Working with Ira was the best thing I did when I was preparing for my MCAT. From our very first session, her professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for teaching stood out. Ira’s approach is both structured and highly personalized. She doesn’t just answer questions—she deconstructs each topic down to its core principles before rebuilding it into the complex ideas you need to master. Her explanations flow seamlessly, making even the most intimidating concepts feel intuitive. Working with Ira was the single best decision I made while preparing for the MCAT. Beyond rigorously reviewing every practice question, she guided me through my entire pre-med coursework with perfectly timed, one-on-one sessions—helping me earn As in every class. Any Superprof member serious about their goals will benefit immensely from her clarity, dedication, and expertise.
