About Karlee
I trained as a primary teacher six years ago. I have taught Year 6, Year 3 and Year 1, in Australia and the UK.
Since I was at university, I have always tutored. As a 1:1 tutor, I enjoy helping my students build confidence, by starting with what they know and establishing authentic understanding.
I read regularly about evidence-based approaches to reading and writing instruction and engage in professional development. This ensures that my approaches are keep up to date and in line with the most recent best practice.

English is a complex system and learning to read and write can be frustrating for some young learners. As a classroom teacher, I saw amazing children who, in spite of effort and persistence, struggled to keep up with the pace and demands of literacy in the classroom.
They needed extra 1:1 support from an expert, and that's not always available in schools.
As a private tutor, I am able to provide that crucial support so that children can achieve their potential in literacy. I absolutely love seeing those lightbulb moments when the chaos of English starts to make sense, and a love of reading and writing starts to emerge.
I am trained in the very well-regarded Sounds-Write programme, which teaches phonics, phonemic awareness and spelling. It is structured and systematic and teaches fundamental skills and knowledge.
In addition to this, I help students develop their knowledge of spelling, vocabulary and morphology. We revisit previous content so that it is embedded in long term memory.
My lessons are online so I can work with students wherever they are. I try to keep the lessons lighthearted and fun, as well as packed with content. I have high expectations for my students. All my lessons are personalised to a child's specific needs and goals. Lessons can be 30 mins, 45 mins or 1 hour.
