About Hernesha
Hi! I'm a passionate and patient tutor with experience teaching young children, especially at the preschool and early primary levels. I specialize in teaching Math, English, Malay, and Mandarin, using fun, interactive, and child-friendly methods that make learning enjoyable and effective. My approach is hands-on and tailored to each child’s learning style. Whether your child is just starting to recognize letters and numbers or beginning to speak a second (or third!) language, I’m here to support them every step of the way. I believe that building confidence and a love for learning at an early age is key. That’s why I include songs, stories, games, visual aids, and role-play activities in my lessons – especially for subjects like Mandarin and Malay. For Math and English, I focus on strong foundations through practical examples, guided practice, and lots of encouragement. I teach: English (phonics, reading, writing, grammar) Math (basic numeracy, problem-solving, beginner concepts) Malay (speaking, reading, vocabulary building) Mandarin (basic conversation, character recognition, pinyin, songs) My lessons are suitable for: Preschoolers (ages 3–6) Primary (Standard 1–6) Beginners in any of the above subjects Lesson duration typically 60 mins. As a Mandarin and preschool tutor, my teaching approach is centered on interactive, play-based learning that makes lessons enjoyable, engaging, and age-appropriate. I believe young learners absorb language best through songs, stories, games, and hands-on activities, so I incorporate these elements into every class. For Mandarin, I focus on building strong foundations in speaking, listening, and character recognition through repetition, visual aids, and role-playing. For preschoolers, I also introduce basic literacy, phonics, and numeracy in fun, creative ways that spark curiosity and confidence. Techniques & Methodology: Role-play and storytelling (e.g. market/shop scenarios in Mandarin) Use of flashcards, puppets, songs, and movement Positive reinforcement and lots of encouragement Simple, consistent routines that support learning and attention Customized materials based on the child’s interests and learning style Typical Length of a Lesson: 30 to 45 minutes for preschoolers (depending on the child’s focus level) Short, structured segments within each class to keep energy and interest high Qualifications and Experience: Experienced in teaching Mandarin as a second language to young children Background in early childhood education Hands-on experience tutoring active learners and adapting lessons to suit their pace and personality Fluent in Mandarin and English, able to switch languages when necessary to support understanding Who My Lessons Are For: Preschool-aged children (ages 3–6) Beginners in Mandarin, especially those learning it as a second or third language Active learners who benefit from visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities My goal is to create a fun, safe, and enriching learning environment where children feel excited to learn and confident to express themselves.
