I like to teach poetry and prose by first challenging a student to really unpack their understanding of what makes a good poem, and then gently provide them relevant literature and writing prompts to start their own work. I then help them revise this work so that it is as close to a professional piece as possible.

I have worked with Matt on multiple projects both within and outside university. He has really helped me develop my writing, particularly my prose voice. Matt has a flare for enhancing writing through his impressive and extensive vocabulary.
Matt has a deep understanding of the written form with a expertise in poetry. Over the years I have always been able to trust Matt with workshopping my writing - it can feel daunting to share writing as it feels like you're showing the person a very intimate look into your mind, but Matt always makes me feel at ease and I know he will look at my work subjectively and give me the best advice for improvement!
I would highly recommend Matt as a tutor - he's great!View more recommendations

Since my lessons are online, hosted via any video sharing software you prefer and Google Docs, the tariff is reduced.
I am more than happy to charge this rate to proofread works outside of the tutorial setting, too, should a client be more interested in my editorial services.
