About Kimia

My name is Kimia, 23 and Persian. I’m a recent Biomedical Science graduate with experience in customer service and mentoring roles. Whilst my degree has allowed me to develop strong laboratory skills and gain experience of working to protocols and health and safety guidelines, through my job roles I have gained confidence in interacting with others and in contributing to team targets. I’m determined and hard-working under little supervision as well as independently and my patience has allowed me to achieve my goals. I have always been curious about several questions in my mind, for example; why certain diseases exist and where have they come from and what would be the solution. Therefore, science has opened my mind about the reasons and helped me understand that there are factors such as inheritance throughout evolution that have led to numerous problems in human health. Human genetics, biochemical changes and cell and molecular biology of the human body have become much more fascinating, as they are known to be the basis of everything in an organism. During my final year, I have chosen medical genetics as an optional (15 credited) module and undertaken a genetics project on the serotonin transporter gene in Migraine patients as my final project. I have achieved higher knowledge and skills through my final project in third-year Biomedical science. I gained expertise in the research area and technical abilities in laboratories. Working in the lab and doing my project was challenging and was one of the top things about my final year. Doing genetics research has helped me learn a variety of skills such as pipetting and setting them to the appropriate measurements, running DNA samples with different PCR machines, making and running gels for electrophoresis, using UV trans-illuminator for visualisation of gel pictures. Each skill has taught me many things and so I achieved confidence and accuracy in different aspects of molecular biology techniques. During PCR optimisations for my project, I became aware that I acquired high patience by repeating the same process multiple times even if the results were not of significance. I have phlebotomy certification (NHS). I have played the piano since I was 7 years old, have not taught, however, I never stopped practising and playing, therefore I would love to be able to also teach piano to anyone who is interested. University : - London Metropolitan University - Biomedical Science (BSc) [2.1] - University of Westminster - Medical Molecular Biology [2.1] Other Qualifications : I have Phlebotomy and Cannulation Certificate (NHS certificate of competence)
