About Camellia
I graduated from Brown University in 2018 with a Bachelor's in Africana Studies, having earned the Anna Julia Cooper Award for Outstanding Academic Work. I was awarded $2000 from John and Clarice Scarritt Fund for independent research in Salvador, Brazil 2017, which developed into an oral history autobiography of an Afro-Brazilian elder published both in English and Portuguese. I am engaged to my Brazilian partner and have spent months at a time over the past several years in Salvador da Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, and Maceió, Alagoas.

I am deeply inspired by Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire, and Augusto Boal. My goal is to kindle your own inspiration and motivation, not to input knowledge as if your brain were an empty box. Immersion, playfulness and connections to prior knowledge are fundamental to my approach. As someone who now dreams and thinks in Portuguese, I intend to help you do the same (rather than translating from English to Portuguese in your head).
