About Dale
I am a dedicated musician and educator with a passion for helping students grow through both performance and thoughtful instruction. I began my collegiate studies at the University of Arkansas from 2017 to 2020, where I earned the Outstanding Composer Award in Spring 2019 and served as Song Leader and Pianist for the Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Music, with concentrations in piano and euphonium, at Oklahoma State University in 2024, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While at OSU I continued my involvement as Song Leader, Pianist, and Secretary of the Delta Tau chapter of Phi Mu Alpha and served as Vice President of the campus chapter of the National Association for Music Education. My musical foundation was built earlier at Owasso High School, where I received the John Philip Sousa Award, was named Outstanding Bandsman for the State of Oklahoma, and earned All-State recognition on euphonium three times.
Throughout college I gained extensive practical experience as a collaborative pianist, accompanying students every semester for recitals and juries at both the University of Arkansas and Oklahoma State University. I also performed with the University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble, led rehearsals and provided piano accompaniment for Phi Mu Alpha, and reached the semifinals of the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Competition in 2018.
Since completing my degree I have taught mathematics for two years at Nathan Hale Middle School in Tulsa while continuing to share my love of music through private instruction. I taught piano to fellow college students for six years and, after graduation, have maintained an independent studio for two years, offering lessons both in person and online. I look forward to working with new students and supporting their musical development in a supportive, engaging environment.

My approach as a piano tutor is student-centered and practical. I combine solid technical training with musical understanding, drawing on my own experience as a collaborative pianist, performer, and long-time teacher. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, whether that means building strong fundamentals, preparing for performances, improving sight-reading and ear skills, or simply enjoying the instrument more fully.
- Teaching method and techniques:
I focus on clear, sequential skill-building while keeping lessons engaging. Technique is taught through targeted exercises and repertoire so students understand why something works, not just how to do it. I regularly incorporate ear training, interval recognition, and playing-by-ear strategies (supported by my perfect pitch and formal sight-singing background). When helpful, I also bring in historical and stylistic context so students understand the music they are playing. Feedback is specific, encouraging, and focused on steady progress.
- A typical lesson plan:
A standard lesson usually includes:
A short warm-up and technical work tailored to current needs
Review and refinement of assigned pieces, with attention to accuracy, musicality, and expression.
Introduction or development of new material.
Short ear-training, sight-reading, or theory moments as appropriate.
Clear practice goals for the week so students leave knowing exactly what to work on.
Lessons remain flexible—if a student is preparing for a recital or wants extra work on a particular skill, we adjust accordingly.
-What sets me apart:
I bring eight years of private teaching experience, extensive accompanying work at the university level, and leadership as a Song Leader and pianist in Phi Mu Alpha. This combination gives me a practical understanding of how students learn under real performance pressure. My dual strengths in traditional technique and aural skills (playing by ear, sight-singing, and interval training) allow me to help students who want more than just note-reading. I also teach both in person and online, making lessons accessible and consistent.
Who the lessons are for:
I work with students of all ages and levels—complete beginners, intermediate players, and more advanced students preparing for recitals, juries, or personal goals. Lessons are suitable for those who want structured classical training, those interested in playing popular music by ear, and anyone looking for a supportive, goal-oriented teacher. Whether you are just starting out or returning to the piano after a break, I meet you where you are and help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
