About Jannett

Hi, I'm Jannett

You already have a musician inside you. You just haven't met them yet.

Maybe there's a song that stops you every time you hear it. Maybe you've always imagined sitting at a piano and actually playing — not just practicing. Maybe you want your child to grow up with music in their bones, not just in their earbuds.

Whatever brought you here, I can help you get there. Not through rigid syllabuses or exam-driven drills — but by finding the music that already matters to you, and building from that.

I started piano at five, alongside vocal training and dance. Music wasn't a subject I studied — it was how I understood the world. By high school I'd earned China's highest piano certification (Grade 10), and I've spent the years since teaching children and adults across China and Australia to find their own voice through music. I also hold a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) from the University of Melbourne — so whether my student is four or forty, I know how to make things click.

I sing. I arrange. I compose. I teach piano, ukulele, and early childhood music. And I teach in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese — so whoever you are, we'll find a way to make it work.

If you're looking for a teacher who'll help you fall in love with music — not just pass a grade — I think you've found her.

A Bit More...

I am an Australian Chinese who was born and raised in Guangzhou, studied in Melbourne, and have spent time in more than 20 countries. I'm drawn to philosophy, psychology, Buddhism and Taoism. If you happen to be an enthusiast of diverse cultures apart from music, we'll get along very well. :)

Courses

① DIY Goal Course (Adults & older children)

Pick a song. Set a deadline. I'll get you there.

- Tell me the piece you want to play — a birthday performance, a wedding, a song you've loved for years — and tell me your timeline
- I'll arrange it to your exact skill level, design a week-by-week practice plan, and walk alongside you until you can play it
- Want to sing it too? We can work on voice and piano in the same sessions
- No generic curriculum. Every lesson is built around your song, your hands, your goal

② Theory & Foundations (Children · Adults welcome)

Theory through real instruments and experience — not textbooks.

- Sight-reading, notation, rhythm, ear training, basic harmony
- Children learn through ukulele + piano together — concepts click fast, progress is visible
- Games, songs, movement and real repertoire — every lesson is experienced, not just memorized
- Builds the foundation that makes every future lesson easier

③ Skills & Practice Coaching (Kids & Adults)

Bring what you're working on. I fix what's holding you back.

- Hand position, posture, touch, pedaling, rhythm, expression
- Real-time feedback — I watch, listen, and correct in the moment
- Works fully online
- One-off sessions or ongoing support alongside existing lessons

④ Little Musicians — Early Childhood Music (Ages 0–3)
Parent and child together. No experience needed.

- Drawing on years with The Song Room and community music programs in Melbourne
- Percussion, ukulele, singing, movement — a full sensory musical experience
- Builds rhythm, listening, language, and a lifelong relationship with music

1-on-1: book a time that suits you
Small group: fixed Saturday or Sunday sessions — community feel, lower cost
Conducted in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese

🪗 Also Available: Ukulele (Kids & Adults)
The friendliest instrument most people haven't tried.

A complete song, strummed and sung, within weeks — real achievement, fast
Builds the same foundations as piano: reading music, rhythm, ear training
Portable — play anywhere, not just at home
Combine ukulele and piano recordings into your own mini-arrangement
Perfect entry point for children not yet ready for piano

What Makes My Lessons Different

I arrange music for you — I rewrite pieces to match exactly where you are, not where a textbook assumes you should be
I sing — play and sing can happen in the same lesson, with the same teacher
I co-compose — if you want to write something original, I'll build it with you
Ukulele + Piano for children — theory becomes real, fast. Kids can even record both instruments and produce their own mini-duet
Trilingual — lessons in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese. Parents always know what's happening in class
Parent updates after every children's lesson — a brief summary of progress and specific practice tips for the week, in your preferred language
Cross-disciplinary background — piano, voice, dance, and early childhood education. I bring the whole picture into every lesson
