About Josh
I have played piano since the age of 6! Music GCSE, Music A-levels, and many years of practice later, and I continuing to play more than ever.
Learning classical, jazz, blues, folk, and Latin Music, I have loved developing a broad repertoire, and trying to harness it all in my improvisation.
Learning music by ear since a child has helped hugely to improvising today, and now I would like to show you how to do it too, and how to start enjoying your playing.

My approach has always been to focus on playing by ear! For me, this develops crucial skills such as:
- Playing intuitively - understanding pitches, chords, rhythms, chord voicing, and harmonic patterns;
- creative playing - playing by ear is essential when you are trying to improvise and be expressive with your playing;
- playing across genres;
- grow oral skills, allowing you to pick up songs without needing access to sheet music, which can be really useful in casual settings, jam sessions, or accompanying singers.
Playing by ear can be challenging and is something that takes time, but it has brings about an incredibly enjoyable playing experience!
Perfect for beginners, intermediate or advanced players of any age, looking to expand their musical understanding or rhythms, harmonies, and styles.
Lessons will begin with simple pieces, essential scales and harmonies, and then variations on these elements.
More advanced lessons will look at how to take simple melodies and harmonies and apply new jazz inspired harmonies and rhythms.
