About Matt
I began playing the piano when I was 2 years old. I worked for the ballet as an accompanist for almost 40 years. I also played in countless ensembles of just about every kind of music from Jazz to Classical to Pop-Rock and Country and beyond! I have a BM in Composition and more than 100,000 hours at the keyboard. I have been teaching for 40 years, and it is my life passion. I am very serious about my music and my teaching but it is vital to have fun while learning too. I love to laugh and I try to make every lesson an experience to look forward to!

I teach my students to write their own beautiful melodies from the very beginning. Understanding that every student is unique, I tailor my lesson plans to the individual needs of each student. Improvising music is a wonderful and nearly infinite source of joy. I teach the fundamentals of chord theory/harmony by using the students' favorite songs to quickly help them understand and command the mechanics of how chords work together. I am able to distill complex ideas and concepts into fun and simple terms so students can dive in to creating their own music literally from the from lesson. I am happy to teach youth and young adult to adult students alike. Everyone has a song in their heart. I can help you find it and make it sing!
