About Chris
I have a PhD in particle physics from the University of Liverpool where I taught physics and mathematics courses to undergraduate students for 4 years. I have also studied pedagogy.
I have taught students at different stages of learning and who had a range of learning styles and abilities. This has helped me to develop my approach to teaching and become student-focused in my style. It was rewarding to see how my teaching contributed to students gaining confidence in their subject and achieving the exam results they wanted.
I continue to tutor because I enjoy sharing my interest in maths and physics with others and find it very satisfying to help others to learn.

My approach to teaching is to discuss and engage with the topic at hand in several ways and look at the problem from different aspects.
We all learn in different ways. My approach to teaching is to being by discussing a topic in different ways to find which approach allows a student to grasp concepts easily and enjoy learning. I am flexible in my teaching style in order to fit the learning needs and goals of the student. This might involve working through applications together, discussing real-life examples or starting with theoretical concepts, for example.
I am able to structure lessons around a GCSE or A-Level syllabus or focus on particular topics that a student wishes to understand better. I can use a combination of PowerPoint, videos and interactive online or in-person teaching, as suited to each student.
I value patience and aim to create a friendly, supportive learning environment.
I usually suggest lessons last one hour. This allows time for teaching, application of the concept, practice and discussion, while not being too onerous on the student.
