About AcidHCL
I’m Changlin Huang, a UC Santa Barbara graduate with a B.S. in Physics and Statistics/Data Science, and a Cornell M.Eng. in Systems Engineering. I teach high-school and intro-college physics and math, as well as beginner coding, with two years of private tutoring experience. I’ve also served as a TA for an AP Computer Science A (APCSA) course and a Cornell M.Eng. course on Modeling and AI. I’ve been involved in research from my undergraduate years through graduate study, working on data-driven modeling and applied quantitative projects in the field of GIS. My lessons are structured and student-centered: I guide you step by step through key concepts, explain the theory behind each solution, and focus on the exact points you find unclear. Questions are always welcome—I aim to help you build real understanding and confidence, not just get the right answer.

I provide one-on-one guidance on every key point, helping students understand both the solution and the underlying theory. All questions are welcome and encouraged, and I focus on clarifying whatever concepts the student finds confusing.
A typical weekly session follows a consistent flow: we start with a 5–10 minute warm-up using 3–5 quick questions or a small coding task to reactivate key skills. Next is a 15–25 minute concept block focused on the core idea—definitions, intuition, essential formulas, and when to use them—connecting theory to practice (for physics, moving from concept to equations with unit/limit checks and common misconceptions; for math, emphasizing definitions with examples and useful properties; for coding, linking ideas to syntax, patterns, and edge cases). Then we spend 25–40 minutes on guided practice, solving 2–4 problems together using an “I do, we do, you do” progression: I model the full thinking process, the student leads with prompts and support, and finally the student solves independently. We end with 5–10 minutes of reflection where the student summarizes the main idea, notes where they got stuck and why, and writes a short checklist for next time. Finally, we plan 10–20 minutes of targeted homework—typically 3 easy, 3 medium, and 1 challenge problem for transfer, plus an optional mini-project or extension for coding.
