About Jess
Hi! I'm Jess, a Philosophy and Marketing graduate from the University of Western Australia. I love to learn and I love helping others learn. I've been helping others learn through both formal and informal channels for 5+ years. I've had various roles in the corporate, not-for-profit, higher education and retail sectors. Methodology
I work closely with students to encourage them to develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. I use a holistic, mixed-methods approach including explaining concepts and ideas in a more typical classroom teacher format, setting mini-tasks and discussing feedback in detail, including asking questions for further understanding and to promote critical thinking.
I am very familiar with technology and incorporate this into teaching where required e.g. online quizzes, marking work online, playing games.
Lessons can be 30 - 60 minutes depending on your needs. My lessons are for high school and ATAR students in Italian, English, Literature or Philosophy, university students in Philosophy, or anyone seeking to boost their writing skills.
My Experience
Have taught students and marked essays in Philosophy at a tertiary level, employed by UWA.
Have tutored in Italian at a tertiary level (employed privately).
4+ years experience adjudicating high school debating in Perth and regional WA and providing feedback to students.
2+ years experience in low socioeconomic high schools teaching soft skills such e.g. resilience and career skills e.g. resume writing.
