About Matheus

Hi, I’m Matheus! I’m a marine biologist, PhD student, and experienced Biology and Chemistry teacher. I know that science can sometimes feel overwhelming—especially when there’s a lot of new information, difficult concepts, or an exam coming up.
My goal is to make those topics clear, manageable, and interesting, while helping you become more confident and independent in your learning.

Whether you’re struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an exam, catching up on coursework, or simply want to understand science at a deeper level, our lessons will be built around what you need.

Unlock Your Potential in Science with Personalized Tutoring

Hi, I’m Matheus Guarizo! I’m passionate about making science easier to understand, more engaging, and—most importantly—relevant to you.

Whether you’re a secondary school student looking to strengthen your Biology or Chemistry fundamentals, or a university student tackling marine biology, ecology, climate change, statistics, or data analysis, I offer personalized tutoring built around your goals and learning style.

My Teaching Approach

My goal isn’t simply to help you memorize information for an exam. I want you to **understand how and why things work**, so you can apply what you’ve learned with confidence.

With more than three years of secondary-school teaching experience, university teaching practicums, and science outreach, I’ve learned to break down complex topics into clear, manageable steps. I use real-world examples, practical exercises, and plenty of opportunities for you to work through problems yourself.

Lessons can focus on whatever you need most—whether that’s understanding a difficult concept, preparing for an exam, interpreting scientific data, improving your study habits, writing a scientific report, or learning how to use **R** or **Python** for data analysis.

Lesson Structure & Duration

*60-minute sessions* are ideal for regular coursework, reviewing difficult topics, and building your understanding over time.

*90- or 120-minute sessions* are particularly useful for intensive exam preparation, scientific writing, programming, statistics, or larger projects.

A typical lesson includes:

* A quick review of what you already know
* Clear, step-by-step explanations of new concepts
* Practical examples and guided exercises
* Student-led problem-solving to reinforce understanding
* Time for questions and clarification

The structure is flexible, though. We can adapt each session to what you need most.

Qualifications & Experience

Academic Background:

* PhD Candidate in Marine Sciences at the University of Auckland (Institute of Marine Science), supported by a UoA PhD Scholarship
* MSc in Biological Sciences (Zoology), São Paulo State University (Unesp)
* BSc in Biological Sciences (Marine Biology), São Paulo State University (Unesp)

Teaching & Science Outreach
