About Michaela
I am a PhD student and have been tutoring for 5 years from GCSE to undergraduate level. I have a BSc and MRes degree in Science subjects and an A* grade alevel in Psychology along with A grades in English Literature and Biology.

I will find out what learning style works best for the student, if they are unsure of this I will plan mini-sessions using different styles to determine what the student is most comfortable with. Not only will I take into consideration the target grade given by the school, I will also find out the student's personal target grade as this has the most impact. I will ask the students to write out their long-term goals and break them down into smaller, more achievable goals, which will be worked on within each session. I will use the individual syllabus to refine my teaching, ensuring that the student can to answer multiple choice questions and short and long answer questions - with key focus on using trigger words and definitions that can take answers to the next level. Progress will be measured via mock tests/ exam board past papers and mark schemes, but also by questions that the student has written themselves. I believe that role reversal is a very effective technique in aiding learning. The student picks a certain topic to become 'the expert' and teaches it back to me. This method requires deep understanding - not just memory recall and thoroughly embeds the information.
