About Olivia
I became a tutor because I find it genuinely rewarding to work with people one-to-one, in a way that university teaching rarely allows. I enjoy getting to know how someone thinks and learns, and finding the approach that works best for them. Academic study can feel daunting at any level, and I am committed to making it feel more manageable, enjoyable, and - hopefully(!) -interesting.
I have a deep connection to the North East and bring a genuine enthusiasm for geography, social science, and history into everything I teach. My ongoing doctoral research means I bring
current, cutting-edge subject knowledge to every session, and I pride myself on being approachable, patient, and easy to talk to.

I am a PhD researcher and First Class Geography graduate with almost five years of university teaching experience at Northumbria and Durham Universities. I tutor students from GCSE through to Masters level in Geography, History, Politics, Sociology, Research Methods, and a wide range of academic skills.
My approach is friendly, relaxed, and entirely tailored to you. I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable and confident, so I work hard to create a warm, conversational atmosphere from the very first session. I am happy to lead sessions or to follow your lead - whatever works best for you. Whether you prefer structured lessons with a clear plan, or a more open discussion-based approach, I will adapt to suit your preferences and learning style.
I begin each tutoring relationship by listening carefully to your goals and challenges, and together we develop a realistic, achievable plan to get you where you want to be. I am experienced in supporting students at all levels, including neurodivergent learners and those who find academic pressure difficult, and I take pride in making complex ideas feel genuinely accessible.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and can be delivered online via video call or in person in Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding area.
