About Amélie
I’m Dr. Amélie Mons, an Academic Skills Specialist and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with over a decade of experience empowering students to excel in essential study and academic skills. Currently, I serve as a Learning Specialist at the University of Manchester, where I support students in realising their full academic potential through targeted lectures, one-on-one coaching, and dynamic workshops designed to meet diverse learning needs. To date, I have taught over 2,000 undergraduates across a variety of fields, including Academic Writing, Study Skills, French Studies, Cultural Studies, Literature, and Leadership.

Self-assessment is a key tool in my teaching practice, as it fosters confidence, reflective habits, and a deeper understanding of assessment criteria - allowing students to more accurately evaluate their own progress and identify areas for improvement.
As a recent recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Manchester, I am recognised for my skill in designing engaging, adaptable courses that support diverse learning styles. My work in pedagogy has influenced best practices in higher education, and my publications - including articles in respected academic journals and a book with Bloomsbury (bibliography available on request) - reflect my commitment to innovative educational methods.
