About Marco
About Me
Hello! I'm originally from Quito, Ecuador—a beautiful city nestled in the Andes. Growing up, I spoke both Spanish and French, and my passion for languages has only grown since then. At 14, I began learning Portuguese, which opened the door to Brazilian culture for me. After completing my undergraduate degree in Art History in Ecuador, I pursued a master’s degree in Portuguese and Brazilian Culture in Curitiba, a city in southern Brazil.
I hold a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese Studies and bring a unique perspective with my native fluency in Spanish, deep understanding of Brazilian culture from my Master's degree, and fluency in French, English, and Kichwa, an indigenous language spoken in Ecuador. My ability to navigate multiple languages and cultures provides a rich learning experience for students. With experience teaching undergraduate students from beginner to advanced levels, I offer both academic and conversational language learning. My knowledge of Kichwa also allows me to share insights into the indigenous cultures of the Andes, adding depth to the exploration of Latin American languages and societies.
As a language tutor, I draw from a diverse range of experiences—from teaching Spanish, Portuguese, and literature to undergraduate students to working as a translator in Spanish, Portuguese, and French. I also spent several years working in an art gallery and as a style editor at a journal in Quito, where I honed my skills in writing, editing, and ensuring clarity and coherence in texts. These roles have shaped my unique perspective on cultural expression and storytelling.
Approach to Language Learning
I believe there isn’t a one-size-fits-all method for language learning. Some students thrive with structured, grammar-based approaches, while others benefit more from immersive, playful methods that engage with culture, music, and conversation. My goal is to tailor each lesson to suit your learning style and interests, ensuring you not only learn the language but also enjoy the journey.
Personal Interests
When I’m not teaching or immersed in literary research, you’ll find me cheering for my favorite soccer teams (siuuuu!), strumming my guitar, or out on the road with my bike and my dog. I’m also a big coffee enthusiast and love exploring different brews. We can chat about anything—from art and literature to sports and music. Let’s make language learning fun and engaging!

Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson begins with a warm-up conversation to practice fluency and review previously learned material. We then move on to targeted activities—whether it's grammar drills, vocabulary expansion, or listening comprehension—tailored to the student's current level and goals. Lessons often incorporate authentic materials like articles, videos, and songs to bring cultural context to the language learning process. We wrap up with a brief recap and homework assignments that reinforce the day's topics.
