About Ffion
Hi, I’m Ffion!
I’m a final-year PhD researcher in Physics at Cardiff University, specialising in diamond research, and I have a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Warwick.
My academic background spans Chemistry and Physics, but I enjoy helping others feel more confident in subjects that can seem intimidating. I’m passionate about helping students realise they can understand science, even if they have struggled with it in the past.
I have several years of teaching and student-support experience, which has helped me learn how to explain scientific ideas in different ways depending on the person in front of me. I enjoy breaking difficult topics into manageable steps, answering questions patiently and helping students develop the confidence to work things out for themselves.
For me, one of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing a student go from feeling unsure of a topic to being able to approach it independently. Often, a little extra support, patience and encouragement is all it takes for things to start clicking.
I’m friendly, patient and approachable, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and working things out at their own pace. I’m a first-language Welsh and English speaker, and although I primarily teach in English, I’m happy to use Welsh to support students where helpful.
Outside of my academic work, I enjoy reading — preferably somewhere sunny — and going on walks with my golden retriever.
Ultimately, I want my students to leave lessons not only with a better understanding of Chemistry and Physics, but with greater confidence in their own ability to learn and succeed in science.

Build Your Confidence in Chemistry and Physics
My approach is simple: practice makes perfect — but understanding comes first.
We’ll start by making sure the key ideas are clear, then build on them through guided examples, practice questions and independent problem-solving.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual. Whether you’re strengthening your foundations, working through a topic you find difficult or preparing for exams, we’ll focus on the areas where you need the most support.
For GCSE and A Level students, I like to make sure the theory is understood before moving on to exam-style questions. Once the key concepts are secure, we can apply them to past-paper questions, identify common mistakes, improve exam technique and develop a clear approach to unfamiliar problems.
For younger students, lessons can focus more on building strong foundations and making scientific ideas feel clear and manageable.
I like to break complicated topics into smaller steps and connect new ideas to things you already understand. My aim is to make Chemistry and Physics feel logical rather than overwhelming.
Lessons are typically one hour and are available for students from Year 7 through to A Level, including KS3, GCSE and A Level.
Ultimately, I want you to leave each lesson feeling more capable and independent — not just knowing the answer, but understanding how to get there yourself.
