About Raf

I am a molecular biologist with a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and a strong background in genetics, epigenetics and molecular biology. My academic career includes research experience as a postdoctoral scientist, working on complex biological mechanisms and modern experimental approaches used in bioscience.

Alongside my research work, I also trained as a Biology teacher and completed a PGDE in Secondary Biology at the University of Strathclyde. This combination of research and teaching allows me to explain scientific concepts clearly and effectively, even when the topics seem difficult at first.

I have worked with students at different levels, helping them understand challenging topics such as genetics, molecular biology and cell biology, while also building confidence and improving their problem-solving skills.

What I enjoy most about teaching is helping students move beyond memorising information and instead develop a real understanding of how biological systems work. My goal is to make biology logical, engaging and accessible.

I particularly enjoy working with motivated students who want to deepen their understanding of biology and succeed in their studies.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to help students truly understand biology rather than simply memorise information. I hold a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh and have experience both in scientific research and teaching biology.

I specialise in explaining complex topics such as genetics, molecular biology and cell biology in a clear and structured way. During lessons we break down difficult concepts step by step, connect theory to real scientific examples and practise applying knowledge to exam-style questions.

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s level and learning style. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop strong scientific thinking and gain a deeper understanding of biology.

I work with GCSE, A-level and university biology students who want to improve their understanding of challenging topics and perform better in exams.
