About Dareen

Hello! I’m Dareen, a PhD candidate in Economics at Concordia University with more than 7 years of experience teaching and tutoring economics, mathematics, and quantitative courses. I hold a Master of Applied Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a Minor in Mathematics from the Lebanese American University (LAU). I have worked as a Teaching Assistant at both Concordia University and LAU, where my experience has included leading tutorials, preparing teaching materials and practice questions, grading, holding office hours, and teaching econometrics and Stata labs. Alongside my university teaching, I have worked extensively as a private tutor with students from Concordia University, McGill University, York University, and other institutions. I teach students ranging from introductory undergraduate courses to advanced undergraduate, Master’s, and selected PhD-level economics courses. My areas of tutoring include microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics, mathematical economics, quantitative methods, public economics, labour economics, industrial organization, development economics, and mathematics for economics and business. I also tutor pre-calculus and Calculus I, II, and III. What I enjoy most about tutoring is taking a topic that initially seems difficult or intimidating and making it logical and manageable. I adapt my explanations to each student’s background, course material, professor, and goals rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you need help catching up, preparing for an exam, mastering a difficult graduate course, or aiming for a top grade, I would be happy to work with you. Online tutoring is available worldwide, and students from any university are welcome.

Success in economics is not about memorizing formulas, it is about understanding the intuition, knowing how the mathematics fits together, and developing a reliable way to approach unfamiliar problems. My lessons are therefore highly personalized. Before our session, you can send me your lecture slides, textbook chapters, problem sets, assignments, past exams, or other course materials. I review them in advance so that our lesson is focused specifically on your course, your professor’s approach, and the areas where you need the most help. During the lesson, I usually begin with the intuition behind the topic and then connect it to the mathematics, graphs, equations, and derivations. We then work through examples and exam-style questions together. Rather than simply giving you a solution, I show you how to recognize the type of problem, choose the appropriate method, and work through it systematically so that you can solve similar questions independently. I work with students at all levels, from introductory undergraduate courses to advanced undergraduate, Master’s, and selected PhD-level economics courses. My tutoring includes microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics, mathematical economics, quantitative methods, labour and public economics, industrial organization, development economics, and mathematics for economics and business, including Calculus I, II, and III. I can help with: • Midterm and final-exam preparation • Weekly problem sets and assignments • Difficult lecture material and textbook chapters • Mathematical derivations and economic models • Econometrics and statistical concepts • Stata and empirical analysis • Intensive review before an exam • Building stronger foundations for future courses I have experience adapting to courses from different universities, including Concordia, McGill, and York, and I am equally happy to work with students from universities elsewhere in Canada or internationally. My goal is simple: by the end of the lesson, I want the material to make more sense than it did when we started, and I want you to feel capable of approaching the next question on your own.
