About Elia

In my BSc I studied Economics at the University of Florence. I graduated early with honors, with a thesis in Mathematics for Economics . During the three-year course, in addition to developing an excellent knowledge in basic economic, business and legal subjects, I focused on quantitative methods (mathematics, statistics and econometrics, microeconomic theory).

Later, thanks to a merit scholarship, I moved to Rome where I continued my studies in an élite, international MSc, the RoME Master in Economics offered by LUISS and EIEF, strongly focused on quantitative subjects and aimed at preparing for academic research in the economic field. I graduated with honors in July 2019 with a thesis in Monetary Economics (who was judged among the three best in my cohort), and later I continued my studies with a PhD in Economics at the European University Institute (EUI) of Florence, one of the best doctoral programs in economics in Europe.

At the EUI, I completed core and advanced courses with excellent marks, earning an MRes in Economics and I'm now doing research in macroeconomics and family economics.

I hold all my classes online, but thanks to a high-performance Samsung tablet with an S-Pen, it feels basically the same as if I was sitting next to my students. I can help undergraduate and graduate students in economics with almost every subject. I feel particularly prepared to teach microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics, probability, mathematics for economics and related subjects. I am also proficient in coding (Stata, Python, Matlab, Julia, R) so I can help you with your assignments and to learn the basics of these languages.

I teach with the aim of making students understand core concepts, instead of telling them to acritically memorize a bunch of stuff. My teaching method is adaptive and based on students' goals. If the goal is merely to pass the exam (even with a low mark), we will quickly skim through the material and solve a lot of exercises based on old exams. If the goal is to obtain an excellent result, we will go through the theory in depth and then move to exercises on each topic. I can draft personalized study plans based on the time available before the exam.

I am patient, willing to help and I like to offer interesting examples linked to real-world phenomena, to make others passionate about the subject I explain.

I prepare each lesson thoroughly before meeting a student. If needed, I can prepare high-quality PDF handouts (using LaTeX/Overleaf) summarizing the most relevant notions to keep in mind, or cheat-sheets that can help you visualize the whole structure of the course at a glance.
