About Jonathan
As a fully qualified teacher in secondary school history (as of 2017), I have experience in teaching large groups of young students and developing a variety of learning techniques. During my first year as a secondary school teacher finishing in 2018, I also acquired a masters in Applied Professional Studies in Education (APSE) from the University of Sheffield, which explored techniques for Year 9 history students to improve academic writing skills. In addition, I have been employed by AQA to mark GCSE history exams in the summer of 2019.
Since then, I have taught History of Art students at university level as part of my PhD, leading a module group which explored the issues and theories around the materials of art and architecture. This involved running seminars, one-to-one tutorials and feedback, and offering detailed advice for essay writing; receiving 100% positive feedback from my module class at the end of term.
In addition to teaching experience, I have successfully completed numerous academic and professional degrees, and am eager to share the skills and knowledge I have gained from these achievements. I am keen to help with academic writing, essay structuring, research techniques, exam techniques, and knowledge across subjects like history of art, history, and geography (from school to university level).

Having teaching experience at both secondary school and university level, I offer a variety of teaching techniques. Rooted in pedagogical theory, I structure lessons well in order to assess learning and understanding at the beginning and end of each session (starter, main, plenary). In consideration of each learner, I also cater to the stage you are at by offering tasks that are catered to your needs, and that are appropriate for the specified learning outcome. Furthermore, rather than lecturing, I ask probing questions in order for there to be a good discussion between student and teacher; another good way to gage understanding. But most importantly, I want you to have fun while learning!
I am a firm believer that the best way to teach is not to simply offer answers, but to help students develop analytical skills and self-learning strategies which will be valuable in later education and careers. In offering the tools to learn, I aim to make you as a student develop the awareness of how you learn, and to take those skills into the future where you can become more self-sufficient.
