About Catherine
I have always been passionate about teaching, a commitment that began when I started tutoring while completing my IB.
My undergraduate studies in applied theatre deepened my focus on being both a facilitator and a teacher, helping me develop skills to engage and inspire students in a creative, supportive way.
Over the course of my three years in teaching, I have found immense joy in helping students build their confidence, creativity, and understanding, reminding them that making mistakes is part of the learning process. I aim to approach topics in a way that sparks curiosity and makes learning engaging, fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive.

In my tutoring, I employ a range of techniques and methodologies tailored to the individual student. Having attended several CPD sessions that focused on various approaches to learning—whether for low-ability, high-ability, or students with additional needs—I believe it’s crucial to find the right method that works for you. Every student learns differently, and my goal is to adapt my teaching to best support your unique needs.
Each lesson typically lasts for an hour, with a strong focus on retrieval practice. I emphasise reinforcing knowledge so that your learning is retained long-term, rather than only for short-term gains. This approach helps ensure that the material sticks and can be applied when needed.
In terms of qualifications, I have completed a BA (Hons) degree at a drama school (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), and before that, I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB). I also hold a PGCE in English with Drama from UCL, and I taught at a secondary school for three years. This background gives me a strong foundation in both teaching and the arts, with experience in working with a variety of students.
My lessons are primarily aimed at secondary school students, particularly those in KS3 and KS4. However, I’m always open to discussing your specific needs if you are outside of this range, whether you are younger, older, or not currently in formal education.
