About Nichole
My name is Nikki and I have a passion for teaching maths (with experience teaching a number of other subjects also). I worked for over 20 years with young people (1-to-1 as well as in groups of up to 6) who, for various reasons, were unable to access mainstream education. Age, ability, personality and needs varied hugely and as a result I've plenty of experience adapting my approach to facilitate learning opportunities to suit the learner and moment accordingly. Building a positive relationship based on trust, understanding and support is key and something I enjoy when meeting new learners.

Many thanks for reading on… My past students have ranged in age from 6 to 53!... with the majority being between 8 and 16. As a maths tutor, I feel very strongly about working at a pace that suits and builds confidence - and in turn ability - within my students, with a relaxed but firm and supportive approach. I particularly enjoy the challenge of guiding those who feel in the dark or overwhelmed with maths to a place they feel less daunted. Potential varies hugely in individuals but the aim is to make progress towards maximizing on this, whatever the level. Ideally, lessons last a minimum of 1 hour to allow time to settle and get into the flow of learning but this may not work for some and could be adjusted accordingly, if necessary. Lessons will always follow a framework with room to adapt activities as necessary - always initially with the offer to support topics being covered at school should that be required. I also allocate time - 5 to 10 minutes - at the beginning of my sessions to hone mental arithmetic skills (basic sums plus times table recall) through 2 simple, fun, short activities that I have used for many years - with students of every age - which have proved very effective in building those capabilities. Communication is key - between myself, the student and parents/carers - to tailoring a learning experience that works and I look forward to the opportunity of journeying through maths with you!

My son has always had an issue with his math and unfortunately, it has knocked his confidence in not just this lesson, but also his learning in other subjects too. This has meant he was very behind in the curriculum.
I brought Nikki on when my son was in year 4 and she has been tutoring him ever since (twice a week until recently). We quickly saw his confidence in math improve so much, and much to our surprise, his confidence in other lessons too. This helped with all aspects of his schoolwork (and confidence growing up, including asking for help should he need it.)
He is now in year 10 and starting GCSE prep and I wouldn't have anyone else assist him.
He has had trouble with connecting with teachers/tutors alike, and they seem to not be able to help him understand the math, in a way he can relate to. I don't know how Nikki does it, but she just gets him and explains in a way he gets too.

I offer a no obligation Free First Lesson - both online and in person - for up to 1 hour. This would ideally be in the company of a parent(s)/carer(s) to discuss needs, agree a plan and establish good foundations to move forward. I am happy to engage in regular sessions, short or long term but if one-off, 'ad hoc' support sessions are needed at short notice, I am also happy to help where I can. Please feel free to contact me with any queries or requests without any obligation to commit. In terms of ADDITIONAL COSTS - these CAN BE KEPT TO ZERO! That said... In the case of ONLINE LEARNING... if you have access to a printer and are happy to print learning resources, this might result in further costs to yourselves but can be very useful. I would also be happy to provide learning materials should you wish, via post, at an agreed price. Please note however that this is NOT a requirement - working solely online with no physical resources is effective and achievable. In the case of IN PERSON TUITION... I am happy to provide core learning resources such as worksheets and equipment etc at no further cost to yourselves, but should you wish to invest in other learning resources, I am happy to recommend upon request or utilize resources already to hand. Any clarification needed in regards to costs, please don't hesitate to ask.
