About Sonia
Bonjour! My name is Sonia, and I’m a fourth-year student at Western University, majoring in French for Teaching with a minor in Criminology. I’m working toward becoming a French teacher, so tutoring isn’t just a side job for me. It’s a chance to do what I love and keep growing as an educator.
Through my university studies, I’ve built a strong foundation in French grammar, language, and culture, along with an understanding of how students actually learn a second language. I know what it’s like to sit in a French class feeling lost, and I also know how good it feels when things finally click. That’s the feeling I want every student to have.
Every student learns differently. Some need more speaking practice, some need grammar broken down step by step, and some just need someone patient in their corner. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, school program, and learning style, whether they’re in Core French or French Immersion, from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

My approach
I believe French should feel like something you can actually use, not just a list of rules to memorize. My lessons mix conversation, reading, and grammar so students build all their skills at once. For younger learners, I use games, songs, pictures, and storytelling to make vocabulary stick. For older students, I focus on clear grammar explanations, practice with real examples, and lots of speaking so they gain confidence. I always explain things in plain language and break difficult topics into small, manageable steps.
A typical lesson
Each session starts with a quick warm-up chat in French to get comfortable speaking. Then we review anything from the last lesson or from school that felt confusing. Next comes the main topic, whether that’s a new grammar point, vocabulary set, or homework, taught with examples and guided practice. We finish with a short activity or mini-quiz to check understanding, and I suggest a small amount of practice for the week ahead.
What sets me apart
I’m patient, encouraging, and remember what it’s like to learn French as a student myself. I adapt every lesson to the student’s pace, learning style, and school curriculum, and I keep parents updated on progress. My goal is for students to leave each session understanding more and feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Who my lessons are for
I tutor students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, in both Core French and French Immersion programs. Lessons can focus on homework help, test and exam preparation, reading and writing, oral presentations, or simply building conversation skills. Beginners and students who are struggling are very welcome.
