About Lucy
Over the past 5 years I have helped previous students earn As and A*s at both GCSE and A-Level, as well as developing their confidence and interest in the subject.
I am a Modern Languages graduate form the University of Cambridge (BA, MA) and have recently graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art with a MA in the History of Art (French Decorative Arts). I have been tutoring French, English, History of Art, Spanish and Science (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) at GCSE and A-Level for more than 5 years and now specialise in English Literature, French and History of Art. I have also completed residential home stays where I tailor intense courses to the student's needs ahead of the exam season.
I am an extremely patient and understanding teacher which gives my students the confidence to raise and discuss their problems and difficulties. However, learning is not just about understanding, but enjoying the subject as well! I therefore try to adapt my teaching method to the individual student, playing to their strengths and interests, ensuring that they engage with the subject matter at hand.
I find teaching extremely rewarding, as the growth in a student's confidence often brings about success both in and outside of the classroom. While academics are important, I believe sport and musical/dramatic interests are equally important to develop the student's curiosity and overall well being. I have therefore also coached students in hockey and ballet which are extra curricular passions of mine.
Outside the classroom, I am interested in the arts, especially ballet, theatre and eighteenth and nineteenth-century French Art.

Prizes and Scholarships :

Ann Duncan Award from Newnham College 2014 (commending the quality of my final year's work at the University of Cambridge)
A prize from Newnham College in 2014 for obtaining a distinction in my Final dissertation.
Other Qualifications :
Aside from private tuition in England, I tutored a French boy (7 years old) in English during my year abroad in Paris (2013). He was already an almost fluent speaker, so we followed the English curriculum, completing spelling tests, reading books for 9-11 year olds and grammar etc.
I have also completed a number of home stays with children to help prepare them for their GCSE exams. These sessions are normally a couple of days in length (6 hours a day) and worked around the student's schedule, to be as flexible and accommodating as possible. These home stays are extremely successful as I work around the student's needs and weaknesses in the periods before the examinations.

Lucy was tutoring me to help me catch up on a missed year of spanish GCSE.
Lucy was really helpful; her kind and gentle approach to teaching improved my confidence in both my written and spoken spanish. She was especially helpful with improving my grammar and pronunciation, whilst still making the lessons interesting.
She is very enthusiastic and has an excellent ability to communicate with people. Lucy made the lessons creative, stimulating and fun, which encouraged me to work harder, and therefore gain more out of her lessons, resulting in a much better GCSE grade than i would have otherwise gained.Lucy was a phenomenal help when it came to the preparation for my GCSE's. Having low confidence in some subjects and having been taught badly in others, Lucy thoroughly covered everything I needed to know for my upcoming exams. This allowed me to take my exams content with the fact that I had been taught the correct material. When Lucy began our tutoring it was evident that she was extremely well prepared. Not only did she have great knowledge of what needed to be learnt but she also new the various exam boards well. Lucy made learning fun yet remained efficient and productive. Finally, throughout my tutoring period with Lucy she was living with myself and my family. She was very well mannered, always polite and simply a great houseguest.
Very conscientious and popular with all the people she tutored
Lucy helped my son improve his English skills.
She helped him read and have a critical view on the books.
Lucy is a very enthusiastic young woman, she is a dedicated person and my son loved her and loved reading and discussing with her. He missed her.View more recommendations
