About Kelly
I am a private tutor that has been working with students in different capacities for 8 years. In the last few years I have worked in a couple of different places as a tutor. I was a tutor at a private school in Tennessee helping students in grades K-12 with math, English, reading, history, and science. Then I worked at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes helping students with reading, comprehension, math, and verbalizing. Most recently I have been working as a private self-employed tutor with students both in person and online. Outside of directly tutoring students, there are some other key experiences that have helped shape how I instruct. These experiences include: interning at an orphanage in Mexico, working at a Montessori preschool, and studying abroad in Switzerland. Overall I have a great passion for helping students to learn and especially learning how to read. I believe that reading is the key foundation to learning for your whole life and having joy while doing it.

My teaching method is individualized to each and every student based on the primary way in which they learn, and how they are motivated. When I am teaching a student any subject, I approach their level and progress with immense patience and empathy. I also use motivators or games to keep them engaged throughout sessions together. I also focus on building a relationship of trust so that students feel safe to make mistakes as they grow and learn. I implement different methods for dealing with anxiety, stress, or other strong emotions that might keep them from moving forward. I love helping students to learn and have that moment where everything clicks!
