A patient, encouraging, and passionate tutor - Maths tutor with Riya Tejas

Riya is a hard-working, empathetic individual with integrity who is committed to only delivering excellent work. I have seen these qualities in Riya during her time taking a lead in creating wellbeing outreach and health literacy education for her university student peers. In her role as one of the first ever Positive Peers, she has been a leader on the team to develop a wellbeing workshop that is relevant to university students and deliver it. The workshop helps to creatively educate students on what good wellbeing looks like whilst simultaneously supporting them to set personal goals in this area. The workshop that was created by Riya has been so successful that it was nominated for a Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education Award. This experience demonstrates Riya's ability to work hard to deliver excellent, innovative education that is relevant to its audience. Riya has also been integral in delivering and facilitating Student Minds, a 6-week course for students experiencing low mood or mild depression. In this course, she uses her strong listening, empathy and support skills to teach students how they can look after themselves when they're down and guide them in setting relevant goals that are empowering. This experience demonstrates her ability to empathise with any audience to create a positive, effective learning environment. Aside from her teaching in these courses, her role as a Positive Peer also requires that she independently work on administrative tasks. She is reliable in these and able to manage her time to get the tasks done according to the deadline set out. Overall, Riya is an excellent teacher whose calm demeanor and strong leadership make her able to teach any audience with empathy, integrity, commitment and excellence.
