About Celina
As someone who understands and has experienced the pressures of being a student (I have been a student for a long time!), my goal is to make learning enjoyable, stress-free, and as simple as possible for all my students. I have a passion for teaching all topics in biology, and I can't wait to get to know you and help you throughout the learning process!
I have mentored many students throughout my experience as a teaching assistant, and many have communicated that they have felt more confident in themselves and the material they were learning. Using my tips and study tools, others also improved their performance on assignments and exams, while improving their overall grade. I have also been told by previous students that I have the ability to explain complex topics in simpler ways, allowing for a clearer understanding of the subject matter. By working together, I hope to provide you this service by giving you the tools needed to achieve your goals and to improve in any way that you can!

Hello!
My name is Celina and I am a UWO graduate in Biology and Medical Sciences, and also hold a Master's degree in Biology where I researched the effects of diet on liver disease. I am currently doing my PhD in Medical Sciences at McMaster University where I am continuing my research on diet-induced liver disease. I have been an undergraduate teaching assistant for 5 years and I am very passionate about teaching as my goal is to be a university professor.
I have extensive experience in teaching biology topics to university students, specifically in cell biology, developmental biology, and physiology. However, I have a great understanding of a wide range of biology topics and can teach students from high school to upper year university courses.
In the practice of teaching, especially in the field of science, I believe that learning is an integrative experience where students should be encouraged to think critically and apply their knowledge and skills to new complex issues or problems. Moreover, my goal is to motivate students to reflect on their learning experiences and to see the “bigger picture” by making connections between familiar concepts, as well as with their own lived experiences. Using this “bigger picture” thinking in science disciplines is important for understanding how individual smaller scale events can come together to communicate a larger message. To achieve these goals, I ensure that (1) students are in a safe environment that fosters trust, openness, and respect; (2) a student-driven approach to teaching and learning is used; and (3) communicating that both learning and teaching are strengthened through ongoing learning.
Our lessons will be held over Zoom (if online). We can discuss your goals and how we can achieve them together, your strengths and weaknesses, and how you want to learn to ensure that you are benefitting in the best way possible from our lessons. We will come up with a plan together.
I also believe that respectful and open communication within the classroom is important, because we are here to learn from each other. I want my students to know that I am open to altering my teaching strategies to best suit their needs, and if something isn't working, we can talk about it and adjust everything accordingly! As such, my teaching methods/strategies vary between students as I understand that everyone learns differently.
As your tutor, YOU are my first priority! My goal is to see you succeed and to make you feel confident in yourself and your abilities.
My rate is $45/hour and I offer both online and in-person tutoring (in-person tutoring dependent on location).
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Celina.
Perfect! Celina is fantastic! As soon as I read her bio I knew she was going to be the right tutor for my son. She is quick to respond to messages, which I really like and appreciate, and she's super accommodating (we chose in-person tutoring). In my son's first "get to know you" session she figured out how to best teach him to the way he learns and understands things. My son said he learned more in two sessions with Celina than he has from his Biology teacher all semester! I highly recommend Celina for anyone needing Biology tutoring :-)
