About Nikki
Hi! My name is Nikki, and I am a passionate student, researcher, and tutor with a strong background in mathematics and science. I currently conduct neuroscience research at the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research (ICNDR), where I use critical thinking and problem-solving skills every day.
When I was younger, I struggled with topics like algebra and geometry myself, which is why I have a great deal of patience and understanding when teaching students. I know firsthand that everyone learns differently, and I strive to explain concepts in ways that make sense to each individual student. In addition to tutoring independently, I also tutor students at my school and have received positive feedback from peers who say that my explanations help them understand difficult concepts more clearly. My goal is to help students build confidence, strengthen their problem-solving abilities, and develop a genuine understanding of mathematics.

My approach as a tutor is centered around building both confidence and deep understanding. I believe that students learn best when they first master the material they are currently studying and then challenge themselves with more advanced concepts. During lessons, I create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas.
A typical lesson is divided into two parts. During the first half of the session, I work with students on their current class material, including homework assignments, reviewing concepts taught in school, clarifying difficult topics, and strengthening foundational understanding. During the second half of the the lesson, I introduce more advanced concepts and additional practice problems to help students stay ahead in their classes and develop stronger critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
My teaching methods include guided problem-solving, active recall, personalized explanations, and practice-based learning. Rather than simply providing answers, I encourage students to think through problems independently while offering support and strategies that help them develop long-term academic skills.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect with students as someone who is also deeply engaged in advanced academic studies and scientific research. I understand the challenges students face because I actively work through complex subjects myself, and I strive to make difficult concepts approachable, interesting, and enjoyable.
My lessons are designed for middle school and high school students, particularly those studying mathematics, science, and related subjects. I work with students of varying skill levels, from those seeking additional support in their coursework to those who want to challenge themselves with advanced material and get ahead academically.
