About Cara
I am a singing tutor with over 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education with a focus on voice. I specialise in working with choirs, vocal ensembles, and group harmony training, helping students of all levels develop strong vocal skills. My teaching covers styles including Classical, Sacred, A Cappella, and Barbershop, ensuring versatility and depth in performance. I emphasise sight singing, solfège, choral blend, and part-singing, while also guiding students in rehearsal leadership and ensemble dynamics. My experience includes directing and coaching school choirs, college ensembles, and community singing groups, achieving both musical excellence and personal growth in singers. Each lesson focuses on building confidence, precision, and expressive performance within a group setting. I use a combination of technical exercises, ensemble practice, and real-world performance scenarios to enhance vocal skill and musicality. Students learn how to harmonise effectively, listen critically, and contribute to a cohesive group sound. My approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to the needs of each ensemble member. My teaching approach is designed for both The Music Major and The Suzuki Student, focusing on building a strong vocal foundation and preparing for auditions. Song selection is key—students learn how to choose pieces that highlight their strengths, suit their vocal tone, and demonstrate versatility. I guide them in matching vocal tone to each song, ensuring authenticity and resonance. Controlled dynamics and phrasing are emphasised to add expression and professionalism. Vocal agility exercises help both personas navigate challenging passages with ease. Mock auditions simulate real performance conditions, reducing anxiety and improving stage presence. Genre diversity is encouraged, expanding repertoire and adaptability for different audition requirements. Practical tools like backing track apps, lyric trainers, and pitch analysers are incorporated to reinforce learning between sessions. Students develop self-awareness in pitch, timing, and expression. Lessons are structured yet flexible, catering to individual goals and skill levels. Both Music Majors and Suzuki Students benefit from targeted strategies that enhance technique, confidence, and performance readiness. By combining technical skill, expressive control, and practical preparation, students build a strong vocal portfolio and are fully equipped to excel in auditions and performances.
