About Mark
With a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology specialising in Piano History and 7 years of teaching experience, I help pianists unlock the language of jazz. My approach balances tradition and innovation. The piano becomes a space for exploration.
We focus on jazz improvisation and effective comping patterns. Developing a refined harmonic vocabulary is central to our work. You will learn to navigate extended chords and substitutions with confidence.
I believe in complete musical training. Jazz theory is paired with ear training for complex harmonies. Transcription strengthens phrasing and style. Rhythmic precision gives your ideas clarity and impact.
I have guided students from Early Intermediate to Professional jazz levels. Each lesson builds creativity and confidence. Let’s begin your journey into expressive improvisation.

I teach piano with a focus on strong theoretical foundations. I believe understanding music deeply improves every performance. Theory becomes a tool, not a challenge.
We begin with music theory basics and quickly apply them to real music. Scales, chord construction, and inversions are practised at the keyboard. You will study chord progressions and learn how to break them down through harmonic analysis. Patterns start to make sense.
For students preparing for formal exams, I provide careful guidance and targeted exercises. For classical-focused musicians, we explore how analysis shapes interpretation and tone. Knowledge strengthens expression.
Composition and improvisation are natural extensions of this work. We build skills step by step. Confidence grows with understanding.
