My approach to teaching music can be understood through four streams:
- THEORY:
This stream focusses on the fundamentals of music theory. A popular myth among beginning musicians is that learning music theory is "too structured" and "boxes in" their creativity and artistry as a person. But, I think that couldn't be more false! What I've found wrong often isn't music theory itself, but rather, the way in which music theory has been traditionally and classically taught. If taught and understood right, theory can ONLY IMPROVE someone's musicianship. It worked for me, someone who wholeheartedly believed the myth - now, no longer!
- SONGWRITING:
This stream seeks to better equip artists with strong chord progressions and lyricism that conveys their story in the most significantly impactful way possible. We'll work on the layers of each element of the song, centralising our efforts on the main structures and body of the piece/s.
- PRODUCTION:
The Production stream is designed for those who already have a semi established/established song, and are looking for consultancy and advice. These requests could range from general feedback of the song and what it is trying to achieve, to specific thoughts on particular embellishments, instrumentation, production technique, lyrical choice, etc.
- BLEND:
For artists who want to learn about music holistically, equip themselves for all aspects of the music industry, and be able to relay their ideas efficiently and accurately (whether they're talking to someone who doesn't know much about music, or if they're speaking to a producer of 20 years), this course is for you! The Blend stream incorporates elements of ALL the above streams, where we'll work together on achieving milestones within various areas of artistry, from the building blocks of a song, to it being played on the radio.
